Assignment: Hilary - Two adjectives and two adverbs



Ellen was angry. The tickets for the Paris trip remained on the table. As she gazed at them, she felt a warm rush of tears welling up. The ticket envelope taunted her mercilessly, the red cover promising something now out of reach. She picked up the envelope and tore it to pieces, before gently placing them back on the table and walking out of the room.

    Yes, good use of 'warm', and 'gently' in particular. 'Merciless' doesnt add quite so much, since taunting is often insistent and without compassion, and 'red', while descriptive, is not as strong as it could be - if going for a colour word why not try something more unusual, such as crimson? But well done - you saw the point of the exercise.
